This is a very short review as the book for me was just meh!
Synopsis:
After a decade away, Ellie returns to her hometown for her high school reunion — but nothing feels the same. Once the awkward girl who got overlooked, Ellie is now a successful TV writer living in LA, glowing up in every way. But facing old classmates means confronting old wounds, unresolved crushes, and complicated friendships. As Ellie navigates the awkwardness of reunions, she finds herself caught in a love triangle and challenged to figure out who she really is — and what “cool” really means. Witty, heartfelt, and full of charm, Ellie Is Cool Now is a story about growing up, forgiveness, and finding your place — even when it’s right where you started.
The storyline is really relatable — who hasn’t felt nervous about going back to their past or wondered if they’ve truly changed? Ellie’s glow-up and self-discovery are the strongest parts of the book, with moments of genuine warmth and humour that make her easy to root for.
That said, some parts of the story felt a bit predictable, and I found myself forgetting some details because the pacing was uneven. The love triangle, while adding some tension, didn’t quite hit the emotional highs I was hoping for. Several characters felt a bit underdeveloped, which made it harder to fully invest in their stories. i felt like most of the tropes were lightly touched on rather than deeply explored.
Overall, Ellie Is Cool Now is a charming and light read with some great moments, but it didn’t fully capture me or leave a lasting impression. It’s perfect if you want a nostalgic, feel-good story without too much drama, but don’t expect anything ground-breaking.
