My husband surprised me with The Fiancé Dilemma after I raved about how much I loved The Long Game—he often buys me books he thinks I’ll enjoy, and honestly, it just makes me love him even more. I was so excited to dive into this one, but I’ve got to admit, I didn’t quite click with it the same way. It took me a while to get through, and I just didn’t feel as hooked or connected as I’d hoped.
Synopsis:
Josie’s love life is already complicated with multiple failed engagements under her belt—so when her famous, estranged father announces his retirement in a glossy magazine spread, dragging her romantic history into the spotlight, it turns into a full-blown PR disaster.
Enter Matthew: recently out of a job and unexpectedly comes across Josie outside her house, his best friend’s sister. When she introduces him—completely out of the blue—as her fiancé, he plays along. What starts as a harmless lie quickly snowballs into a full-blown fake engagement. But as the two navigate staged photos and awkward family events, real feelings begin to creep in… and things get a lot more complicated.
Most of my reads this month have felt a bit flat, with an average rating of 3 stars—and The Fiancé Dilemma, sadly, was no exception. I had been really looking forward to it, but it dragged on for far too long. I even found myself picking up another book partway through, which is never a great sign.
The fake engagement trope felt overly drawn out, and honestly, Bobbie really got on my nerves. That said, I did enjoy the overall storyline, and Josie and Matthew’s characters (and their backstory) kept me interested enough to see it through. One of the things I did love was seeing familiar characters from previous books make an appearance—it added a nice touch of connection and warmth to the story.
I truly think it could’ve been a solid 4-star read if it had been a little tighter and better paced.
I have a few of Elena's other books that's I'm excited to start- the American Roommate experiment, fingers crossed its more fast paced.
