I picked up The Temporary Roomie right after reading The Off Limits Rule (which i loved), so I was already familiar with the characters and Sarah Adams’ sweet, chaotic rom-com style. I was excited to dive into Jessie and Drew’s story — and while it had some really fun moments, it didn’t quite hit me the way I’d hoped.

Synopsis:

The Temporary Roomie by Sarah Adams follows Jessie, a strong-willed single mom-to-be, and Drew, her brother's best friend and a grumpy paediatrician she’s never gotten along with. When Jessie finds herself in a housing bind during her pregnancy, Drew (reluctantly) offers up his guest room. What starts as a temporary arrangement quickly spirals into fake engagement territory — because why not complicate things even more?

With enemies-to-lovers tension, forced proximity, and heart-warming moments, this rom-com brings sass, sweetness, and a slow-burn romance that just might surprise them both.

The vibe of this book is super fluffy and fun. It's the kind of light, low-stakes rom-com that works perfectly as a palette cleanser between heavier reads. I loved the banter, the sass, and the slow-burn build between Jessie and Drew — especially seeing how their constant bickering slowly morphed into something more.

That said, it was a bit slow-paced for me. I found myself wanting more while I was reading — more emotional depth, more momentum, more spark between the big moments. The tropes were all there and well-executed, but the story didn’t always fully deliver the emotional payoff I was hoping for.

Still, it’s a cosy, sweet read with a fun fake engagement setup and some genuinely heart-warming moments. Drew falling first? Loved that. And Jessie’s strong, independent energy added a great balance to the romance.

I’ve got more of Sarah Adams’ books on my TBR, and I’m really hoping they’ll bring a bit more of that emotional depth I was missing here. I love her setups and trope combos — now I’m just waiting for one to really draw me in and hit me in the feels.
